Good-Fortune-Full

Made this doll last week.  Some of the SoulCollage images I have been working on seemed to want to be expressed in 3-D.  This one is the wounded child (again!). The face is surrounded by neon chopsticks and a ruffle of black tulle.

Good-Fortune-back

The use of several Asian-themed fabrics, ephemera and charms produced the title.  A Chinese flashcard of a porcupine got mid-section placement.

Grey-Doll-Smile

A rusty, road-side find was near-to-hand, and served as a symbol of female organs — the looping shape looks like a diagram of fallopian tubes.  I don’t know what the word on the metal disk is.  I’ll have to ask one of my older son’s peers who went to China this summer.

A quilt made two years ago evokes some of the sights and colors of the Cape.

I took several pictures this past week at the beach because I thought they would make great quilts:

compass-close

We are back after two weeks away.  Ten days house sitting on the Cape in an idyllic setting — just K & me for the first time in 15 years!! — bracketed by two punishing round trip drives to the skateboarding camp in Woodward, PA.   So wanting to bring some of the peace, relaxation, connection, and love of the outdoors back home — to our 1/4 acre yard in the suburbs, and to our home, and to the studio!

By way of returning to the blog, here is the corner, with progress being made. One of the beauties of cleaning up, is unearthing beginnings, like the stamped fabric above.  It had been hidden for a very long time behind one of my large pin boards.

You can still make out the edges of the compass in this photoshopped picture, and below, you can see the floor, where formerly you could not!

Corner-cleaned-up

If you squint, you can just barely see the piece of fabric with the prayer stamped on it hanging from the mauve-painted cylinder above the white dresser.  The point is, I can now open the white drawers and access all of the shelves.

family-pickin-beans

Just a quick post or two in the next couple of days… I will be gardening like fury from now until Labor Day (well, as much as a 52 yr. old with a tender back who is heat-intolerant CAN garden like fury!), so posts will be scattered and few.

Went to Angino Farm yesterday to pick up my share and summer’s bounty was upon us.  Even though the tomatoes have been blighted, I literally embraced lush abundance with my three full bags of vegetables and herbs.  Does it take a tangible armload for me to feel grateful these days?  Perhaps.  I’m working on that….

Little white butterflies were flitting through the lavender, making a beautiful dance.

Angino-Childrens-garden

This shot was taken in the Children’s Garden.  Who among us can resist sunflowers?  I have some in my front yard every year.

arg-MORE-kale

I’m a little tired of eating kale, but look at the incredible texture of its leaves!
